OMG. I thought it would never happen, but it did. According to my previous post, this could never be possible, but Nikon has done it. Nikon has just announced the new full frame D3 with the FX format sensor and its little brother the D300! The D3 is set for a $5000 retail price with ISO sensitivities up to 25,600 thanks to its huge photosites! But the D300 is more in my range at $1800 with most of the same features including the new CAM3500 style autofocus module…drool.
Behold, the new Nikon D300 with optional but sexy vertical grip:
Notable features I’ve been waiting for in a single camera:
- 12.3 MP
- Pro level autofocus with calibration
- Self-cleaning sensor
- CMOS sensor with up to 6400 ISO
- 6 FPS up to 8 FPS with grip
- 3″ VGA LCD
- Live view with phase or contrast focusing
- Active D-lighting
- New metal vertical grip
- Moisture seals
- Big viewfinder
- And many more!
The D3 and D300 are both set for release in November 2007.

This guy captured about 200 photos of the destruction in New Orleans from the perspective of someone who has actually lived it. This sort of gives a different view of what Katrina did minus all of the politics. :sealed:

Is this another attempt by Google for world domination? Whatever it is, it seems sort of neat. Plus everything Google makes is cool.
Like most things Google makes, this is still beta.

The Canon 5D. 12.8MP
Wow. Full frame d-SLRs are coming at a much lower price. It’s not up to the level of the 1D-mkII but still.
I wonder if the APS sized sensor or the full frame sensor will eventually endure. The effect of FF size is certainly what we’ve all come to expect in traditional photography and FF for the masses (almost) will certainly help maintain it. With the flooding of point and click cams all over the place with their tiny sensors, everyone is wondering where all the limited depth of field went. So perhaps the digicam era with it’s small cameras and small sensors will eventually squeeze out the FF and it’s utter bigness. Who knows, maybe FF will become something like medium format or large format is to 35mm.

Wow, Yahoo! bought the Konfabulator software and it’s become freeware.
The software allows you to run little “widgets” that have various functionalities such as displaying the weather, news, calendar, etc. and usually with a highly graphical interface. It is along the lines of the Mac Dashboard software even though it was around before OS X – Tiger.

So the rumor of Apple ditching IBM wasn’t just a rumor and it was confirmed today.
I wonder how they are going to stop people from running Mac OS on any old PC. Surely, there will be ways to get around the hardware locks. Apple intends to only allow it’s OS to function on Apple PCs.
